Gateway Regional Medical Center
Gateway Regional Medical Center provides safe and effective care and has been recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures — among the best in the nation — for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. This recognition comes from The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. The hospital was recognized by The Joint Commission based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. In fact, Gateway Regional Medical Center is one of only 405 U.S. hospitals and critical access hospitals earning the distinction of top performer on key quality measures for attaining and sustaining excellence. Inclusion on the list is based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the previous calendar year.
“We understand that what matters most to our patients is safe, effective care,” said Mark Bethell, chief executive officer of Gateway Regional Medical Center. “That’s why Gateway has made a commitment to evidencebased care processes. We have earned this recognition through the dedication and skill of our medical staff, nurses and other clinicians who care for our patients each day.”
Dan Kernebeck, quality director at Gateway, said, “I think we go above and beyond in those four categories — heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. Our ‘best practices’ approach needs to be reproducible. It needs to happen every time for every patient and that truly is our goal — to help us provide high-quality, safe, cost-effective care to each and every patient each and every time.”
According to Dr. Michael Adams, “The community can be proud that they have access to a top-performing hospital conveniently located here in the community. For individuals who have come to the hospital in the last few years … I know they have seen this change in quality. For those who have not recently had a chance to embrace the community hospital and our range of quality services, we are pleased to offer you and your family safe and effective care.”
Kernebeck concluded, “Gateway’s accreditation by The Joint Commission represents our commitment to quality and the level of commitment we give our patients to ensure they receive safe, high-quality care. As evidenced by recognition as a ‘Top Performer on Key Quality Measures’ for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care, quality, and safety are at the center of everything we do.”
