2020 Census & Business.

A complete census count is critical to assist business leaders in making informed decisions impacting customers, employees, and employers themselves. Census data:
  • Provide the basis for distributing grands for economic development and inform business decisions, such as local business expansion.
  • Create projections of growth and help business people identify prime locations to open new operations or discontinue old ones.
  • Help business owners enhance hiring practices and identify skilled workers.
  • Offer valuable customer base demographics, including income levels, household size, and homeownership - which can further inform business strategies such as pricing and locations.
  • Determine how much funding your community receives and its representation in government.

What Is The Census?

Shape Your Future.

Completing The Census.

Why Is The Census Important?

  • The Census determines the number of congressional representatives for the next decade. Illinois lost two seats in 2010 and is expected to lose at least one seat, possibly two, in 2020.
  • $800 billion will be allocated based on population and income.
  • Aggregate demographic data is used to make important decisions related to school districts, high education, future development and more.
  • A county stands to lose $1,800 per person, per year, for every individual not counted or not participating in the 2020 Census.
  • Federal funding based on Census results support infrastructure needs, schools, school districts, hospitals, social services programs, and other services that provide assistance for senior citizens, veterans and low-income families.
  • Census participation can help attract large employers and inform local business decisions like retention and expansion, which brings new employment opportunities for residents and growth for communities.
  • Census questionnaires are confidential. Collected information is not shared with other federal, state, or local government agencies.
