Advocacy provides you and your business with a voice. Whether through the presentation of
simple statements or in-
depth campaigns on issues important to you, advocacy makes sure that
your point of view is represented and clearly heard by
the community and decision-makers. The voice that
advocacy ensures becomes the power to effect change
as your issues reach the forefront of the public agenda.
Effective advocacy that the Chamber of Commerce can
provide is a vehicle for finding your voice and driving it
forward towards a positive reaction. The Chamber of
Commerce seeks to provide the active support of
advocacy, building respect for your views and promoting
the voices of the people and organizations that place
their trust in us.
Government Affairs
The Government Affairs Committee (GAC) was established in January of 2004 with the mission
to encourage productive relationships between members and their elected officials as well as to
promote discussion on issues affecting the local business community.
Over the past two years, this committee has introduced several events including “Breakfast with
the Mayors” and the ever-popular “Meet & Greet” which brings together business leaders and
local and regional elected officials in a casual atmosphere.
The Government Affairs Committee meets the first Monday of each month at 12 noon. Past
meetings have included discussions with Mayor Neibur of Edwardsville, Mayor Jackstadt of Glen
Carbon, and Madison County Chairman Alan Dunstan. For more information on how you can get involved, contact Carol Foreman at 618-656-7600.
