Advocacy
Advocacy provides you and your business with a voice. Whether through the presentation of simple statements or in-depth campaigns on issues important to you, our advocacy efforts ensure that your point of view is represented and clearly heard by the community and decision makers. The voice of advocacy becomes the power to affect change as your issues reach the forefront of the public agenda. The chamber's effective advocacy is a vehicle for finding your voice and driving it forward toward to garner a positive reaction. The Chamber of Commerce seeks to provide the active support of advocacy, building respect for your views, and promoting the voices of the people and organizations placing their trust in us.
Government Affairs
The Government Affairs Committee (GAC) was established in January 2004 with the mission to encourage productive relationships between members and their elected officials as well as to promote discussion on issues affecting the local business community.
This committee has introduced several events including Breakfast with the Mayors, the ever-popular Meet & Greet Your Elected Officials, which brings business leaders together with local and regional elected officials in a casual atmosphere, and new in 2012: Legislative Summit, which provides local business people the opportunity to interact with Illinois legislators in a panel discussion format.
The Government Affairs Committee meets the first Monday of each month at noon. Past meetings have included discussions with Mayor Niebur of Edwardsville, Mayor Jackstadt of Glen Carbon, and Madison County Chairman Alan Dunstan. To get involved, contact Lisa Smith at 618.656.7600.
